Forged in Passion: The Dramatic Saga of Zinc Diecast Handles by Handle House

Updated: May 31, 2023

Zinc die casting is a manufacturing process that involves the use of zinc alloy, which is a combination of zinc, aluminum, and copper. The exact composition of the alloy can vary depending on the specific application and requirements.

Generally, zinc die casting alloys contain around 4% aluminum and 1% copper, with the remaining percentage made up of zinc. These alloys offer a good balance of strength, ductility, and castability, making them suitable for a wide range of applications.

Zinc die casting alloys also have excellent surface finish properties, which make them ideal for decorative applications. They can be plated, painted, or finished in a variety of ways to achieve the desired appearance and functionality.

Zinc die casting has several advantages, including:

  1. Better dimensional accuracy and tighter tolerances, which makes it ideal for high-precision parts.

  2. Higher strength and hardness, which makes it suitable for applications where durability and toughness are important.

  3. Good castability and fluidity, which allows for complex shapes and thin walls to be produced.

  4. Better surface finish, which makes it suitable for decorative applications.

Zinc casting is heavier and has a lower melting point, higher corrosion resistance, and better thermal conductivity.

In our showroom at Architectural Design Hardware we have the privilege of presenting the Handle House range of door handles.

DOOR HANDLE LEVER SETS ARE AVAILABLE IN THREE FUNCTIONS:

Passage: The passage function of a lever refers to the type of lever handle that allows the door to be opened and closed without the need for a locking mechanism. This function is ideal for interior doors where privacy or security is not a concern, such as a closet or pantry door. Passage levers are suitable for French doors.

Privacy: The privacy function of a lever refers to the type of lever handle that can be locked from the inside, providing privacy and security for a room. This function is ideal for bathrooms, bedrooms, or any room where privacy is required. If needing to switch your privacy handle direction to suit your door, you can simply pull out the latch tongue carefully and twist it 180 degrees the other way.

Dummy: The dummy feature of a lever refers to a type of lever handle that is not operational, meaning it cannot be turned or used to open or close a door. Instead, it is a fixed handle that is used for decorative purposes, typically on the front of a door that does not require a functional handle such as a linen or wardrobe cupboard. Care & Maintenance

For the care and maintenance of these products, made of zinc die-cast, to avoid scratching and pitting it is recommended to clean the handles and knobs with luke warm soapy water and a soft, clean cloth. Ideally best to be carried out at regular intervals (approx. every 2 months).

Avoid using household cleaners containing damaging chemicals and never use abrasive scouring pads. These chemical cleaning agents are NOT suitable as it may cause a reaction and will damage finish of the handles and knobs.
