To top it off public smoking, drinking, dancing, and a liberal stance on sex scandalized polite society.
The 20s is typically characterized by sleek geometric or stylized forms and by the use of man-made materials. Interior design was characterized by glamour and sophistication. The Art Deco movement played a major role in home décor in the 1920s. Major characteristics of the home during this time included geometric furniture, bold colors, and statement mirrors.
Colors such as jade greens, rich reds and peacock blue-greens helped define the 1920s era. For many, the growth of cities, the rise of a consumer culture, the upsurge of mass entertainment, and the so-called "revolution in morals and manners" represented liberation from the restrictions of the country's Victorian past.
The 1920s was a decade of change, when many owned cars, radios, and telephones for the first time. The cars brought the need for good roads. The radio brought the world closer to home. The telephone connected families and friends.
